Gaithersburg, MD - Monday, September 24 - The Gaithersburg-Germantown Chamber of Commerce (GGCC) honored their volunteers at the Business Networking after Five event on Thursday, September 20. The event was held at and sponsored by Smokey Glen Farm Barbequers, Inc. in Gaithersburg.

The GGCC holds its annual picnic in honor of its volunteers who generously give their time and talents to the Chamber. These remarkable people are an integral part of the Chamber and its success. The event is held annually at Smokey Glen Farm – an active supporter of the GGCC - a family owned business that has held Corporate Citizenship as a core value for over 50 years.

“Our volunteers are the backbone of the Chamber.  They understand that the better our Chamber is, the more value they receive for their business and for the community.  We could not do what we do without them,” stated Marilyn Balcombe, GGCC President.

Six chamber members received an award & special recognition for their commitment and involvement with the Chamber. These “exceptional volunteers” were nominated by the working committees of the Chamber for having substantially contributed to GGCC member programs and activities. They include:

-Gary Aughinbaugh, AETEA Information Technology, Inc. & Brittany Hilton, Mid-Atlantic Federal Credit Union: Gary & Brittany are the Abbott & Costello of the Young Professionals Group that was started earlier this year. Their commitment & dedication has developed a chamber networking group of dedicated young professionals ranging in age from 21-35. Their passion, drive and commitment to ensure the success of this group have been extraordinary and for these reasons were awarded as our first ever Young Professional Exceptional Volunteers. Gary is also a member of the Membership committee and participates in one of the GGCC’s Direct Connect Groups. Brittany is also a member of the Golf, Events and Membership committees.

-Walter Borrotto, Goal Getters: When Walter joined in February 2011: he took an active role in the GGCC and is nominated for his work on the Membership Committee. Walter is dedicated to the membership committee and is a huge asset in making retention and prospect phone calls. In addition to his commitment on the membership committee, Walter attends the Economic Development Committee meetings, participates in one of the Chamber’s Direct Connect programs, contributed to our Best Practice Book and is a columnist in our quarterly newsletter.

-Michelle Fox, Kaplan University: It has been exactly one year since Michelle & Kaplan University joined the GGCC and Michelle has been a dedicated power horse. Her “can do” attitude has earned her recognition this evening. Michelle was awarded for her work on the events committee. Her support of the Events Committee, as a regular attendee and active participant, has greatly contributed to the vitality of the committee. Michelle is also a member of the Membership & Young Professionals committees.

-David Rowles, BlackFinn Restaurant & Saloon: David truly embodies the word volunteer. He is being recognized this evening for his countless hours of bartending over the past few years at our Annual Wine Tasting, his assistance at our Annual Celebration Dinners and more recently, he helped out and bartended at our grand opening.

-Mark Stevenson, Proforma Stevenson & Associates: Mark has been a member of the Chamber for 8 years and was honored for his work with the golf committee. Over those 8 years, Mark has provided quality, professional and dependable service support to the Chamber and committee as the golfer gift vendor. He is easy to work with, honest, helpful and on point with each of the orders which helps immensely to the overall success of the Chamber’s Annual Business Golf Classic.
